Consultation opens on proposed train timetable changes.

Irish Rail / Iarnród Éireann has asked for comments on proposed new train timetables, which they hope to implement in April 2011.

Consultation opened on 10 January, and the draft schedule is available for four weeks.

The proposed timetable document is in PDF format, and can be downloaded (3 Mb), from Irish Rail's timetable changes consultation page.  Feedback can also be provided through this page.

They plan to follow this process for all (major) timetable changes in future.

New air service between Ireland West (Knock) and Edinburgh

Flybe will be operating flights between Edinburgh and Ireland West (Knock), between 19 April and 27 October 2011.

Three flights per week, bookings are being taken now.

The enhanced service now provided by Bus Éireann's route 64 (Galway - Knock Airport - Sligo - Derry) makes Ireland West airport an option from Galway.  (Ref: Airport transfers from Galway)

Galway Harbour redevelopment consultation sessions

Consultation sessions about the plans for Galway Harbour redevelopment will be held on 20 / 21 January, 2011.

Stage 2 of the plans includes a rail link for freight.  It  is not yet known if there are plans to extend public transport to the current or extended Harbour Enterprise Park.

Bicycles can now be pre-booked onto inter-city rail services

Irish Rail - Iarnród Éireann now allow bicycle spaces to be pre-booked on inter-city train services, for a fee of €6 per journey.

Bicycles can also be carried, for free, on off-peak commuter rail services in Dublin and Cork.
