2019 Christmas park and ride service

Park and Ride bus on Parkmore Road at night
A park-and-ride service will run in Galway City for the Christmas 2019 shopping period.

It will run daily between Friday 6 December and Tuesday 24 December, and is being operated by Callanan Coaches on behalf of Galway City Council.

Parking area and city-centre bus stop

Parking is provided at Ballybrit Racecourse -  see the Parkmore Neighbourhood Map for details of this area.

The central city drop-off and pick-up point is the Galway Coach Station (point "S" on the regional bus stops map).

There is no specific arrangement for cars to be left at Ballybrit overnight:   any cars which are left there are at the owner's risk.

Hours of operation

Buses run every 15 minutes:
  • Between 9:30am to 9.15pm,  Monday - Saturday (last departure from Ballybrit at 9:15pm)
  • Between 11am - 9:15pm on Sundays (every 30 minutes between 7pm and 9pm)

On 24 Dec, Christmas Eve, the last bus will leave the city-centre in the early evening - the exact time is to be advised, last year it was 5:30pm.

Cost

The fare is €1 each way per adult,  This includes all-day parking

Children under age 16 and pensioners (mostly likey defined as people with a Free Travel pass) are free.

Galway City daily, weekly and monthly tickets are not accepted.

Route

Buses use the most appropriate route between the race-course and the city centre - typically this makes use of bus lanes.

The service is non-stop, with no pick-ups or drop-offs along the way.
