Galway City bus service changes, September 2018

bus 409 runs every 10 minutes from September 2018
Bus Éireann have announced a number of improvements to Galway City bus services.

These changes all take effect  from Sunday 16  September 2018.

The major improvements are for Salthill (doubled frequency and through-route buses to Parkmore), and for Newcastle / NUIG / Oranmore (doubled frequency), and earlier Sunday morning buses on all routes.

Information on the main GalwayTransport,info website will be updated to show these changes in the coming days.



Details of the changes

Salthill to Parkmore through-route


Route 402-Seacrest to Merlin Park through-route

  • Buses will start from 8am on Sundays and public holidays (previously they started at 10am).   
  • The new timetable is available here.

Route 404-Newcastle and 404-Oranmore

  • Buses will now run every 30 minutes through the day and evening (previously every 60 minutes)
  • Buses will start from 6am on Saturdays (previously they started at 7:40am) - this makes the timetable consistent Monday - Saturday.
  • Buses will start from 8am on Sundays and public holidays (previously they started at 9:40am)
  • The published timetable has more detail of stops in Westside and Newcastle, and allows (slightly) for longer journey times at peak periods.

Routes 405-Rahoon and 405-Ballybane

  • Buses will start from 8am on Sundays and public holidays (previously they started at 10am).   
  • The new timetable is available here.

Routes 407 - Bóthar an Chóiste

  • Buses will start from 8:15am on Sundays and public holidays (previously they started at 10:15am).   
  • The new timetable is available here.

Route 409-Parkmore

  • On Monday - Friday, buses will run every 10 minutes between 7am - 7pm, and every 15 from 6-7am and 7-11pm.
  • On Saturday, buses will run every 10 minutes between 10:30am - 7pm, and every 15 or 20 minutes outside of that. 
  • On Sundays and public holidays, buses will start at 7am (previously 9am), and run every 30m minutes until 10:30am, and every 15 minutes after that.

About these timetable changes

The National Transport Authority is the body which is responsible for licensing bus services, and which will have had to approve these changes. They are the organisation that you should complain to if you are unhappy about the changes
