"Flying home with Feda" - a radio documentary about the Galway / Donegal bus service

A new radio documentary series about the Feda O’Donnell bus service and the people who use it

Thursdays 16.00 on Flirt FM 101.3

Begins Jan 20th 2011

The Feda O’Donnell bus service, which plies the route between west Donegal and Galway, and the people who use it is the focus of a new documentary series which will be broadcast on Flirt FM, the student radio station in NUI Galway, over the next ten weeks.

The series, much of which was recorded on the bus, hears about the lives and day-to-day concerns of a range of people using the service, many of them students. As such it gives an interesting optic on contemporary life along the north-western seaboard. The long-standing connection between the Donegal Gaeltacht and NUI Galway is also explored, with many colourful anecdotes about student life in Galway over the years. As well, of course, as the role Galway plays as cultural (and party!) capital of Ireland.

Armchair travellers will be taken through some of Ireland’s most spectacular landscapes – along the side of Errigal, through the rugged Barnesmore Gap, around the bottom of Benbulben and, of course, along the N17. The journey will also be a musical one, with iconic local music – from Daniel, Dervish and De Danann through to Con Tempo, Galway’s classical ensemble in residence – a central part of each programme.

"Flying Home with Feda" begins on Thursday 20th January at 4pm on Flirt FM and continues at the same time each week for the following ten weeks.

Flying Home with Feda is made with the support of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland’s Sound & Vision scheme and is produced for Flirt FM by Sound Woman Productions.
